OBITUARY:
Funeral services for Miss Anna D. Atkinson, 85, were held this afternoon in the Cameron Church of Christ with Minister Robert Fraley of the Woodsfield Church of Christ officiating.  Burial was made in the Cameron cemetery by the Gardner funeral home of Woodsfield.

Miss Atkinson, died in Cambridge Sunday evening.

She was born at Cameron, daughter of Samuel and Emma Hartline Atkinson and spent her entire life there.  Surviving are seventeen nieces and nephews.  She was a member of the Cameron Church of Christ.

OBITUARY:
As a result of a cerebral hemorrhage suffered Dec. 9, [1945], Mrs. Deborah E. Lucas, 83, widow of Alva W. Lucas, died at 3:20 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 23, 1945, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.L. Devore, 308 North Fifth St., Cambridge, Oh., with whom she had made her home for the past eight years.

Born Sept. 30, 1862, near Graysville, Monroe County, Ohio, a daughter of Abner and Mary Ann Jefferis (Jeffers) Byers, Mrs. Lucas resided practically her entire life in the Graysville community.  On December 17, 1885, she married Alva W. Lucas, who preceded her in death 14 years ago.

At an early age she united with the Conner Ridge Methodist Church in Monroe County.  For a great many years she served this church in the capacity of a faithful Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lulu Devore of Cambridge, Ohio and Mrs. Zella Adams of Olney, Ill.  A daughter, Mrs. Mary Vanfossen is deceased, and a son died in infancy.  She is survived by the following grandchildren: Mrs. Wilma Spitzenberger, of Toledo, Ohio; Harold Devore of Columbus, Oh; Vera Eckelberry of Cambridge, Ohio; Hila May Bowling of South Charleston, W.Va.; Roy Vanfossen, Clay City, Illinois; Leo Vanfossen of Noble, Illinois and Dean Adams who is serving in the Army Air Corps; fourteen great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Isadora Christy of Graysville, also survive, as well as several nephews and nieces.  Several brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

The body was removed to the Bundy Funeral Home, Cambridge, and returned to the Devore home for services at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening, Dec. 25, with Rev. W. Dwight Heaston, pastor of First Methodist Church, Cambridge, officiating. Additional services were conducted by Rev. Heaston at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 26, 1945 at the Hartshorn Ridge Church in Monroe Co., [OH].  Interment was in the church cemetery.

Yoho, John Otto and Gardner, Belle

John Otto Yoho

John Otto Yoho, eldest son of the late Peter F. and Martha S. Yoho, was born November 9, 1869, at Fontana, Kansas, being the first white child born in Miami County, that state, and departed this life at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Johanning at Wheeling, W. Va., where he had been visiting, Saturday evening,  September 26, 1931, following an illness from heart affection.


He came with his parents, upon their return to Ohio, to Lewisville, Monroe County,  later resided with them at East Union and in the early 80's came with the family to Caldwell, where the greater part of his life was spent.  He acquired a common school education and later was associated with his father in business at Caldwell.  In later years he entered the employ of the Neil & Ellingham Wholesale Grocery Company at Wheeling.  In still later years he associated himself with the Dill Medicine Company, of Norristown, Pa., with headquarters at Pittsburgh, Pa., with which company he remained until he came to Caldwell some years ago, and purchased the merchandise stock owned by the late J. Stanton Harris.  This business he continued here until he removed the stock of goods to Dexter City, where he continued the business until failing health more than two years ago prevented his further engagement in active business.


On September 7, 1892, he was untied in marriage at Cambridge, Ohio, to Belle Gardner Matthews, of that city, and resided at that place until their removal to Pittsburgh.  To this union no children were born. The deceased is survived by his wife and one step-daughter, Mrs. Daisy Stewart, both of Cambridge, and four sisters, Mrs. Lillian Harris, of Caldwell and Mrs. George E. Harsch, Mrs. O.G. Mills and Mrs. Pearl Coburn all of Zanesville.


The deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew him and had the highest respect of all his acquaintances.  He was honest and upright, true to his convictions, generous and [had] sympathy for all in need and distress, and his passing is deeply mourned by his legions of friends.


The body was brought to the home of his sister, Mrs. Harris, at Caldwell, where funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon by Rev. D. C. Marshall, of Flushing, Ohio, former pastor of the Caldwell Presbyterian Church, a close and affectionate friend of the deceased, following which the body was placed in the Yoho vault in the Olive Cemetery.  Wed. 7 Oct. 1931 Noble County Leader Caldwell Ohio.

Belle (Gardner) Yoho

Mrs. Belle Yoho, aged 70, widow of John Yoho, passed away at 9:30 o'clock Friday morning at the home of her daughter,  Mrs. John Stewart, 317 South Eleventh Street, after an illness lasting two months.


She was born in Washington, Pa., the daughter of John and Mary Ellen Katy Gardner, and came to Cambridge when a child with her parents, residing here ever since.  Mrs. Yoho had a large number of friends and was highly respected.  She was a member of the First Christian Church for many years and when her health permitted was active in its affairs.


She leaves to mourn her loss one daughter, Mrs. Stewart with whom she lived lived;  one brother, Frank Gardner of North Eighth street, and one sister, Mrs. George Haines of Zanesville.  Her husband died three years ago.  Friday 25 Jan. 1935 Jeffersonian Cambridge Ohio.

MOUNT VERNON, OH -- Cleetice V. "Clete" Henthorn, 78, of Columbus, [OH], formerly of Cambridge and Mount Vernon, died Tuesday (Feb. 21, 1995) at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.

He was born June 11, 1916, in Parkersburg, W.Va., son of the late Ellsworth and Ethel Rubel Henthorn.

Mr. Henthorn retired as engineer from the Penn Central Railroad with 35 years of service and was a member of the V&L F&E Lake Division of Penn Central Railroad.

He was a member of First Church of God at Mount Vernon, Elbrook Masters Lodge 634 F&AM of Cleveland, and past patron of Guernsey Chapter 211 Order of Eastern Star, Cambridge, [OH].

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Lynn Henthorn, a son Clinton Vaughn Henthorn, three brothers, Gilbert, Carl and Harrison Henthorn, and a great-granddaughter.

Mr. Henthorn leaves his wife, Thelma Thomas Henthorn; four sons, Lloyd, Garland, Dean Henthorn all of Mount Vernon and Gail Henthorn of Newark; three brothers, Richard, Camden and Warren Henthorn, all of Mount Vernon; 12 grandchildren and 13 grandchildren.

Yoho, Susannah (Lashley)

CALDWELL [OH] --- DEC. 8 [1945] -- Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. at the Mt. Ephraim Methodist Church for Mrs. Susannah Yoho, 76, widow of the late Lewis Yoho, who died at the the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clyde Way, Canton, [OH] Thursday of heart ailment.

She was born in Guernsey County [OH] near the Noble County line, a daughter of Phillip and Evaline Lashley. Her husband died three years ago. She was the last member of her family and a member of the Kennonsburg Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Way, Canton and Mrs. H. A. Hamilton, Mansfield; two sons, Karl of the home and Marvin Yoho, Congress, O., seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The body was removed to Caldwell where friends may call. Rev. Floyd Gaugler, Senecaville, will contact rites and burial will be made in Kennonsburg Cemetery.

Yoho, John W.

CUMBERLAND, O[H]--OCT. 16--- John W. Yoho, 76-year-old retired coal miner, died at 8:30 o'clock last night at his home in Cumberland [OH] following a long illness of complications.

A native of Noble County, he had lived in the Cumberland community most of his life. He was a member of the Cumberland Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Anna Yoho, of the home; three sons, Homer Yoho, of Noble, and Thomas and Charles Yoho, of Cumberland; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Smith of Stafford, Mrs. Elmer Beckett of Columbus and Mrs. Harry Reynolds of Reynoldsburg and 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Private funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning at the Tom Funeral Home in Cumberland with the Rev. Van Syoc officiating. Burial will be in the Cumberland Cemetery.

NEWCOMERSTOWN [OH] --- Sara J. Pearson, 64, of Newcomerstown, [OH] died Monday (March 24, 2003) at Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newcomerstown, following a brief illness.

She was born May 27, 1938, in Cambridge, [OH] daughter of the late Reed and Alice L. (Stone) Yoho.

Mrs. Pearson was a 1956 graduate of Cambridge High School, where she served as class valedictorian. She studied electronics and technical courses following graduation.

She was employed as an auditor in the quality assurance department of NCR in Cambridge, for more than 20 years. She was also employed as an operator for General Telephone in Cambridge, Wilmington and Gallipolis and worked for American General Insurance in Coshocton.

She was a member of the former Westminster Presbyterian (Unity) Church in Cambridge, Newcomerstown Women of the Moose, Chapter 29, and was a social member of Thomas Montgomery Post 431 in Newcomerstown American Legion.

She enjoyed gardening, shopping, reading and working on crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles J. Kail.

She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Keith G. (Jacqueline) Hultz of Newcomerstown; three sons, David A. Pearson of Parkersburg, W.Va., Steven C. (Jennifer R.) Pearson of Gahanna and John M. (Selena R.) Pearson of West Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Chris Pearson serving with the U.S. Navy in the Dominican Republic, Sara Hultz of Newcomerstown, Jocelyn Miller of West Lafayette, and Steven C. Pearson Jr., Matthew R. Pearson and Kassidy A. Pearson all of Gahanna.

Christopher, Rachel Ann (Yoho) Danford

Mrs. Rachel Ann Danford Christopher, 59, died Tuesday morning at 5 o'clock at her home in Mt. Ephraim [OH] following an extended illness lasting several weeks.

Mrs. Christopher was born Nov. 27, 1876, near Mt. Ephraim [OH] the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Stevens Yoho. In 1906 she was united in marriage to Robert Danford, who died Sept. 2, 1918 and on June 2, 1926. she was married E.A. Christopher, who survives. She spent her entire life in the Mt. Ephraim vicinity with the exception of 12 years. when she lived near Caldwell.

Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Harry Miley, of the home; one brother, John Y. Yoho of Mt. Ephraim; one sister, Mrs. Martha Gregg of Akron, and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the Mt. Ephraim M.E. Church of which she was a member, by Rev. Herbert Shiltz, of Clarington, a former pastor. Interment will be made in Mt. Ephraim Cemetery.

Yoho, Raymond A.

Raymond A. Yoho, 70, of 1246 Marquand Ave., died at 5:10 A.M. today (Feb. 9, 1988) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital [Cambridge, OH].

He was born Dec. 29, 1917, in Parkersburg, W. Va., son of the late Olvin and Daisy Meighen Yoho. He was a member of Beckett Avenue United Methodist Church and was a retired employee of NCR.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

On Oct. 12, 1940 he married Helen J. Beynon, who survives. He also leaves one daughter, Mrs. Arnold (Connie) Williams of Byesville; one brother, Haven Yoho of Lore City; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Cain leaves three brothers, Haven Yoho, of Lore City, Auretus [sic] Yoho and Raymond Yoho, both of Cambridge; one sister, Mrs. Beulah Jones of Wheeling, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Services for Aretus Grant Yoho, 77, of Cambridge, [OH] who died at 4:20 A.M. Friday (March 14, 1986) at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe will be Monday at 11 A.M. at Scott Funeral Home with Monsignor Patrick Maher officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Sunday.

Mr. Yoho was born Jan. 13, 1909, in Buffalo, son of the late Oliver and Daisy Meighen Yoho. He was an employee of Home Oil Co., worked as a groundskeeper at Salt Fork State Park and was a member of local VFW Post 2901.

Reed Yoho, of Cleveland, [OH] died Sunday (Oct. 4, 1981) at 2:14 A.M. at Lutheran Medical Center, Cleveland, following a lingering illness.

He was born March 1, 1903, in Buffalo, son of the late Oliver H. and Daisy Meighen Yoho. He was a retired machinist.

Mrs. Daisy Frances Yoho, 62, died Wednesday died [10 Sept. 1947] at 9:30 P.M. at her home at 925 Brown Ave., after an illness lasting five months.

Born Feb. 23, 1885, in Cannonsburg, [OH] she was a daughter of John and Mary Meighen. She was a member of the First Methodist Church here and lived 22 years in Cambridge [OH].

Mrs. Yoho leaves seven children as follows; Mrs. Albert Jones, Wheeling, W.Va.; Reed, Cleveland and Aretus, Mrs. Raymond Jennings, Haven, Mrs. Thomas Cain and Raymond of this city; Two sisters, Mrs. Benjamin Unklesbay and Mrs. John Dingus, of Senecaville; and 13 grandchildren also survive. One daughter and three brothers are deceased.

The body was taken to the Corwin Funeral Home.

Alvin H. Yoho, 86, of Cambridge [OH] died at 9:05 P.M. Saturday [May 1, 1964] at Guernsey Memorial Hospital [Cambridge, OH]. He was born May 2, 1878, son of Samuel and Marian Yoho, and was a retired coal miner. His wife, the former Daisy Meighen, died in 1947.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Lucille Jennings and Mrs. Ruth Cain of Cambridge and Mrs. Beulah Jones of Wheeling; four sons, Haven of Lore City, Reed of Akron, Raymond and Aretus of Cambridge; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Watson, Cleo Ethel

NEW PHILADELPHIA [OH] ---Funeral services for Mrs. Cleo Ethel Watson, 55, 859 Second St., this city, a native of Belle Valley, will be conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday at the Toland-Evans Funeral Home by Rev. H.C. Heinlein. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Watson, whose husband Clarence, operates the Lockport hatchery, died at 9:45 Thursday at the Shady Rest nursing home here after a three months illness.

She was born Jan. 22, 1894, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. McCune. For many years she lived in this community and was a member of the Broadway Methodist Church and of its Ladies Sunday school class.

Besides her husband, she leaves, four sons, James, Robert and Walter of New Philadelphia, and Richard of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Paul Watkins, New Philadelphia and Mrs. Richard Whiting of Tuscarawas; four brothers, Orville McCune of Wooster, Thomas and Owen McCune of Belle Valley and Dewey McCune of Cumberland; one sister, Mrs. Edward Hannum, Caldwell; four grandsons, three granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.

The body has been taken to the funeral home where friends may call after 7 P.M. Friday and on Saturday in the afternoon from 2 to 4 and in the evening from 7 to 9 P.M.

McCune, Herbert Lewis

Herbert "Red" Lewis McCune, 72, of Gordon, W.Va., formerly of Belle Valley, died Saturday (Jan. 14, 1984) at Boone Memorial Hospital in Madison, W.Va., following a lengthy illness.

He was born March 17, 1911 in Belle Valley, the son of the late Thomas and Rosa Pierce McCune. He was a retired employee of the West Moorland Coal Co., of Clothire, W.Va.

Mr. McCune leaves his wife, the former Betty Bingham; and a son Thomas McCune of Man, W.Va.

Graveside services will be 1:30 P.M. Tuesday morning at Northwood Cemetery with the Rev. David Eubanks and Rev. W. T. Griffins officiating. Handley Funeral Home in Danville, W.Va. is in charge of arrangements.

McCune, Elmer E.

DUNCAN FALLS [OH] -- Elmer E. "Dewey" McCune, 94, of Zanesville, died Friday (May 3, 1996) at the Muskingum County Home.

He was born Sept. 19, 1901 in Belle Valley, son of the late Thomas and Mary Yoho McCune.

He was a miner for 20 years and worked for 15 years on the highway department.

He attended Ark Springs Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary McCune, on Jan. 13, 1990; Also deceased are six brothers, Orville, T.R., Silas, Harry, John Owen and Bill McCune; three sisters, Inez Hannum, Cleo Watson and Freda McCune.

He leaves a son Carl "Bud" McCune of McConnelsville; four daughters, Geraldine Rapp of Canton, Maxine Spillman of Bolivar and Lucille Shook and Donna Dingey, both of Blue Rock; 19 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Sunday at Thompson-Feris Funeral Home, Duncan Falls, where services will be 11:30 A.M. Monday. Burial will be in Ark Springs Cemetery.

Knouff, Vera V.

Vera V. Knouff, 87, of Cambridge, [OH] died at 9:30 A.M. Friday (Nov. 4, 1988) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital.

She was born Feb. 11, 1901, in Noble County, daughter of the late Fred O. and Daisy Watson Day. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, NLC Sunday school class, United Methodist Women and the Wednesday prayer group.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Knouff, whom she married June 14, 1922.

She leaves her daughter, Mrs. Lewis (Dorothy) Sivard of Fair Oaks, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Eugene (Veda) Ward of Quaker City; two brothers, Blaine Day and Wayne Day both of Quaker City; two grandchildren, Mrs. Lee (Vereda) Williams and Mrs. Michael (Lewette) Wacker, both of California; and one great-grandson, Ryan Williams of California.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 P.M. today at Bundy-Law Funeral Home and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Sunday at Thorn-Eberle Funeral Home, Quaker City, where service will be at 11 A.M.
