Andy Tennant, 64, of Route 3, Fairview, [Wetzel Co.,] W. Va. Died unexpectedly Saturday evening, April 23, 1966 at his home.

A retired coal miner, he was born March 25, 1902 at Fairview to Nelson Tennant, who survives and the late Margaret Wilson Tennant. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church at Jake's Run.

Also surviving is his wife, Audie Ellen Tennant; two sons, Robert Nelson Tennant of Fairview, Route 1 and David Andrew Tennant of Fairview, Route 3; four daughters, Mrs. Carol Thomas of Fairmont, Mrs. Mary Lou Lemley of Mt. Morris [Greene Co., PA], Mrs. Rebecca Steele of Fairview, Route 3 and Diane Sue, at home.

Also nine grandchildren; five brothers, John of Millersburg, Ohio; Wayne and Wilbert, both of Fairview, Route 3; Roy of Pentress, W. Va. and Nelson Jr. of Leesburg, Fla. And two sisters, Mrs. Emma Moore of Mooresville, W. Va. And Mrs. Ossie Cross of Fairview, Route 3.

Byard, Sanford Lee, 83, of Glover Gap W.Va., died Wednesday evening in the Weston Medical Center.

He was born in Wetzel County, April 10, 1881, a son of Isaac and Millie J. Davis Byard and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was also a member of Manning Lodge No. 31, AF & AM

Married twice his wives preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Ike of Fairmont; two daughters, Mrs Loraine Moore of Winfield, Kan. and Mrs. Mary Murphy of Lorain, [OH].; a brother, Mancel, of Mannington; a sister, Mrs. Fannie White of Indianapolis; six grandchildren and six-great grandchildren.

Friends received at the Hunt Funeral Home. Hundred, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. Evangelist C.W. Rock officiating. Burial in Bee Gum Cemetery. Masonic rites at the graveside.

He was born at Fairview, Marshall County, Oct. 6, 1895, a son of William and Ida Parsons Henry and was a member of Wetzel Lodge No. 39, A.F. and A.M., Marne Post No. 28, American Legion and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

Surviving are his widow, Hazel Gilger Henry; two sons, William H. of Bridgeport, W.Va., and Robert J. of Marietta; one sister, Mrs. Lee Francis of New Martinsville.

Friends may call at the Wharton and Ellis Funeral Home, after 4 p.m. today where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. W.S. Slider and S.B. Sawyer officiating. Jason Hendershot, 85, passed away at his home at Kodol, [Wetzel Co., WV] last Wednesday [21 Aug 1940] and funeral rites were held for him at the Mt. Olive church near Kodol Friday.

Rev. N.L. Casey of Pine Grove preached the funeral and interment was made in the church cemetery by the Palmer Funeral Home.

A son of Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Hendershot, he was born in Wetzel County Sept. 26, 1855.  He was a member of the Christian church.

Survivors include four sons: Odgar, Wayne, Bert, and Okey Hendershot; and three daughters, Mrs. Hazel King, Mrs. Dakota Scritchfield and Mrs. Jessie Efaw. of Kodol.

OBITUARY:
Rachel Matilda Goddard, age 76 years, wife of Moses Goddard of New Martinsville (Route 1), West Virginia, died at her home Monday evening [22 May 1939] at 10 o'clock following an illness of six weeks. The remains were removed to the Wharton Funeral Home and prepared for burial and were returned to her late residence Wednesday afternoon.

Funeral services were held on Thursday at 2 o'clock at the Paden Fork Chapel by Rev. R. B. Carver. Burial followed in the Kendall Cemetery.

Mrs. Goddard was born in Proctor District [Wetzel Co., WV, Abt. 1863], the daughter of Elias Hafer [and Sarah J. Morrison].

In addition to her husband [Moses Benton Goddard], she is survived by four sons, Charles Goddard, Wilford Goddard, and Lawrence Goddard of New Martinsville Route 1, and Andy Goddard of Midvale, Ohio. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. One brother, Bruce Hafer, of Jackson county, West Virginia, also survives.

MILITARY: Wiley Charles Goudy served in WWI.  There is a front page article about Albert A. and Frank Estep and Wiley C. Goudy, "Area Man Unfolds Events of 'Big War'" in the Wheeling News-Register of 11 Nov 1988.  They were in Battery F, 314th Field Artillery Regiment, 80th Division.  On 17 Sep 1917, 45 draftees from Wetzel County were photographed on the steps of the Wetzel County Courthouse in New Martinsville, WV before they left for training.

OCCUPATION: After his service he attended mechanic's school and opened a garage in New Martinsville, WV.  He later owned a restaurant and cabins.

RESIDENCES: As of Mar 1994 he was living in the Moundview Nursing Home in Moundsville, WV. In June of 1994 Wiley celebrated his 100th birthday anniversary, making him one of the longest lived persons recorded in the genealogy files of researcher Richard E. Henthorn.

RECOLLECTIONS: I was born in Midcap, Left Hand Fork Proctor Creek, June 28, 1894, one of thirteen children born to Charles and Mary Bell Henthorn Goudy.  The other children were: Louisa E., Earl, George E., John W., Ora L., Bertha J., Mary Etta, Alice, Frederick, Charley, Alton and Norwood.  My brother, Alton, and I live in Wetzel County, [WV].  Fred lives in Ohio county and all the others are deceased.

Charles Goudy was the son of Alexander M. and Eliza Jane Ruckman Goudy.  He had the following brothers and sisters: John, George McClennan, Cordelia, Ida, Rosa J., and an older half brother, James William. Alexander Goudy was born in Washington, PA.  He was the son of John Goudy and had the following brothers and sisters: Robert Miller, Ruth A., Adam, Hershell, James W., Micajah, Mary J., and Sarah.  There were in Monroe Co., OH in 1850.

Mary Bell Henthorn was the daughter of John and Maria Sutton Henthorn.  She had the following brothers and sisters: George, William Clarence, James Madison, Emily J., Martha and Eliza.  John Henthorn's father was also named John and was from Monroe County, OH.

I was in WWI, Battery F, 314th Field Artillery, 80th Division, fighting through France, then serving in the Occupation Forces in German.  I recently donated my Unit picture from Camp Lee, Virginia and Camp Merritt, New Jersey, Welcome Home Unit picture, to the War College Museum, Carlisle Barracks, PA.

After returning from the War, I went to mechanics school and then opened a garage in New Martinsville, [WV].  Later, I had a restaurant and cabins on Route 2.

My wife Ocie Chambers, died young and my son, George, of Moundsville, was raised by my mother.  My son, Charles Ray, was raised by my Aunt Rose Earlewine.

Wiley C. Goudy, of Mound View Nursing Home, Moundsville, [WV] formerly of New Martinsville, died Tuesday [9 May 1995]in the home.  He was 101.

He was born June 28 1894, in Proctor [Wetzel Co., WV], a son of the late Charles and Mary Belle Henthorne Goudy.

Goudy was a retired self employed auto dealer, a Protestant and an Army veteran of World War I.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ocea Chambers Goudy [11 Mar 1924 in Marshall Co., WV]; a son, Charles.

Surviving are a son, George of Moundsville; three grandchildren, Keith Goudy of Columbus, Diane Bumgardner of Washington, PA; and Sandra Kay Richmond of Proctor; four great-grandchildren; three great great-granddaughters.

Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Iams Funeral Home, New Martinsville, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Samuel Starling officiating.  Interment in Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville.

BIOGRAPHY: Synopsis
He was married [to Lillian Alice Liston on 20 Nov 1912 in New Martinsville, WV] by Rev. Lemon Dotson, Minister of the Gospel.

He worked as a telegraph operator for the B&O Railroad Co. He worked until 1935, 25 years.  He was originally a brakeman.  He fell under a train and lost his right leg.  He used a wooden leg attached to the shoulder with a harness. It remained painful throughout his life.

He lived at Glovers Gap, near Mannington, WV.  He lived at New Martinsville, Wv from 1930 to 1934.  He later lived at Jacksonbug.  He liked to camp and frequently went to Canada to fish.  He took his family to the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago.  He like to tell stores to the kids.  He purchased a new car each year.

He died of carcinoma of signoid (lower colon cancer).

OBITUARY:
Ivin Floid Henthorne, telegraph operator for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Company for 25 years died at his home in Porters Falls, [Wetzel Co., WV] at 11:40 p.m. last Thursday.  He was 48 years old.

Funeral services were held from the Wharton Funeral Home at 2:30 o'clock last Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Mozena of Marietta officiating.  Interment was made in the [North]view cemetery, New Martinsville.  Rev. Allen Fields of Pine Grove assisted with the funeral services.

A son of the late Richard and Emma Mozena Henthorne, he was born in Wood County, [WV], Sept. 5, 1888.  He was a member of the Christian Church.

His widow, Lillie Liston Henthorne, survives, in addition to two sons, Raymon[d] and Dale, two daughters, Helen and Betty, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Tice and Mrs. George Flynn, both of Parkersburg.  One grandson also survives.

BIOGRAPHY:
The Fair family lived at Red Mills where Mr Fair later became owner and operator of the general store and the Red Mills which for thirty years was a prosperous center of activity.  During that period, he served as postmaster and for twelve years was county commissioner.  He was a member of the county court at the time the new courthouse was erected in 1900.

OBITUARY: ABSALOM TITUS FAIR
Absalom Titus Fair, 95 years old, passed away at his home in New Martinsville, W.Va., on Nov. 7, 1938.

Mr. Fair was one of the most prominent businessmen in Wetzel County.

He was born near Glen Easton, Marshall Co, W.Va., on May 8, 1848, a son of Conrad and Rebecca Kernes Fair.

He was united in marriage to Louise Rogers [22 May 1862 in Wetzel Co., WV] and to their union four sons were born: Joseph Fair, Reader, W.Va.; William Fair, dec’d.; Conrad O. Fair, New Martinsville; and Friend Fair, Buffalo, NY.

Mrs. Fair died in 1921.

Two half-brothers, David A. Fair of Adaline, W.Va. and Grant Fair of Bethany, W.Va., also survive, along with 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Interment was in Williams Cemetery in New Martinsville.

Charles A. Eller, 68, widely known Wetzel county farmer, died unexpectedly at 5 o'clock Sunday morning [15 May 1938] at his home in Proctor district, [Wetzel Co., WV], on Proctor rural route 1.  He was stricken with apoplexy just after arising from bed Sunday morning.

The body was taken to the Mason funeral home and was returned this afternoon to the late home.  Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Antioch Christian church of which he was a member, conducted by Rev. O.G. Mozena.  Burial will be in Antioch cemetery.

Mr. Eller was born in Wetzel county [WV] April 24, 1870.  He was married on October 9, 1896 to Miss Ellen Yoho, who survives him, along with the following sons and daughters:  Buryl Eller of Taylor's Ridge, Mrs. Neva Ritz of Cameron, [WV], Miss Vera Eller of Charleston, Miss Freda Eller of New Martinsville, Okey, Yonsell and Miss Dolly Eller of Proctor, Sherman Eller of Proctor RFD 1, and Thad Eller at home.  Also surviving are the following sisters:  Mrs. Elizabeth Lemons of Cameron, Mrs. Rose Parsons of Moundsville, Mrs. Bessie Kimes of Newark, Ohio, Mrs. Georgia Downs of Hundred, [WV], Mrs. Violet Kerns of Fairmont and Mrs. Eva McCracken of Cameron.
