OBITUARY:
Billy Lee Yoho (86), residing in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2012.

Bill, a practicing attorney for 58 years in Prince George's and Washington counties in Maryland, was the son of Wilbur Wiley and Nellie Pansy Hawkins of Huntington, West Virginia, and is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Yoho; son Kevin R. Yoho and wife Melissa J. Arnott; daughter Karen L. Yoho; John M. Dolby and wife Shelley A. Dolby; Dianne C. Arter and husband Jim Arter; Jean M. Dolby; Joan D. Dolby; sister Charlotte L. Kelly; brother Gene E. Yoho and wife Mabel; Robert W. Yoho and wife Alice; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters, two step-brothers and two step-sisters that he deeply missed.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 22  [2012] at 11:00 a.m. at Warm Springs Baptist Church, 3683 Pious Ridge Rd., Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. Visitors may call beginning at 10 a.m. A lunch will immediately follow hosted by Bill's church family. Interment will be Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to the Warm Springs Baptist Church for education.

He was preceded in death by four brothers; four sisters; two step-brothers; and two step-sisters he deeply missed.

Bill held many leadership roles, including Lions Clubs International, the Maryland Bar Association, and in Municipal Government. He participated in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the Shriners, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and Knights Templar.

He enlisted in the United States Navy, and after his Honorable Discharge, he attended the University of Maryland as an undergraduate, and then law school. Bill earned advanced pilot certifications both in aviation and boating, which he enjoyed.

Engaged by faith in Jesus Christ and involved with church, Bill loved to learn and teach Bible classes as a Presbyterian ruling elder, and as a Baptist, bringing full circle his mother telling him he was named for preacher Billy Sunday.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 22, at 11:00 a.m., at Warm Springs Baptist Church, 3683 Pious Ridge Road, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Visitors may call, beginning at 10:00 a.m. A lunch will immediately follow, hosted by Bill’s church family. Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.

Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Warm Springs Baptist Church, for education.

FRIENDSHIP:

Bill Yoho was interested in the genealogy and family history of his Yoho family.  Bill and researcher, Richard E. Henthorn became friends and shared information.  Bill used an Apple computer to record his information. Bill invited Richard to accompany him to the Yoho family reunion in New Martinsville, WV. Richard and his wife, Melva, later attended several other Yoho reunions where they enjoyed meeting other researchers face-to-face. Bill's office was located about three blocks from the Henthorn's house. Richard and Bill often got together at the office to talk about genealogy and the Yoho family. He will be missed.

RESEARCHER: Leona Mae (Schaffer) Harrison was, like her mother, interested in family history and genealogy. She shared her information with researcher Richard E. Henthorn. Richard and Melva enjoyed visiting with Leona during one of their visits to New Martinsville, WV.

Leona Mae Schafer Harrison, 87, of Ross Street, New Martinsville, W. Va., died Sept. 26, 2009 at Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield. She was born Jan. 16, 1922 in Warwood, W. Va., the daughter of the late Frank and Grace Suter Schafer. She was a retired federal employee for the VA Hospital in Butler, Pa., where she worked as a secretary in the dental clinic. She was a member of the D.A.R. the Monroe County Genealogy Society, United Methodist Women of Hannibal, and the Hannibal United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two brothers: Chester (Freda) Schafer, Powhatan Point; and Francis Schafer, South Carolina; also several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Clarence D. Harrison, a brother Franklin Schafer and an uncle Delbert Suter.

The family received friends on Sept. 29 at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, Clarington. Funeral services were held Sept. 30, 11 a.m., at Hannibal United Methodist Church, 52732 SR536, Hannibal, with Rev. Richard Wilson officiating. Interment in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Clarington.

Thomas Clifford Morgan
(1919 - 2009)

Thomas Clifford Morgan (T. Clifford Morgan), 90, of Sedalia, MO, died Monday, September 21, 2009, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center. He was born March 4, 1919, near Preston, MO, son of Thomas W. and Odessa Walker Morgan.

Clifford served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1936-38, and in the Navy during World War II from 1942-45. He married Elizabeth Jean Nelson at Trinity Methodist Church, in Kansas City, MO, on May 28, 1949. He lived near Parkville, MO, for 30 years. He retired in 1977 after 30 years with General Motors, Fairfax, Kansas City, Kansas.

He was a charter member of the Platte Woods United Methodist Church, Platte Woods, MO, but he joined the Warsaw United Methodist Church when he moved to Warsaw in 1979. He lived near Warsaw for 26 years. When he moved to Sedalia in 2005, he joined the Wesley United Methodist Church.

Clifford was past master of the Shawnee Masonic Lodge No. 653 in Warsaw. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 236 AF & AM in Sedalia.

Among his many interests was his membership in both the West Central and the Missouri Archaeology Society. He was a past chairman of the Duran Creek Patrol. He was a charter member and past President of the Damsite Square Dance club, which he helped found. He was a member of UAW No. 31. He led woodworking and geology projects in 4-H. He loved woodworking, making antique furniture reproductions, collecting Indian artifacts, being a rock hound, gardening, and researching and writing about family history.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Jean Morgan, of the home; a son, Thomas Dee Morgan, and his wife, M.J. Morgan, of Manhattan, KS; a daughter, Kathryn Louise Marshall, and her husband, Alan D. Marshall, of Sedalia; a grandson, Daniel Christopher Marshall, of Columbia; a granddaughter, Lila Walsh, of Camas, WA; a granddaughter, Kristina McFarland, of Newark, OH; a granddaughter, Shelley McFarland, of Westfield, IN; a granddaughter, Adelle McFarland, of Hagerstown, Maryland; a sister, Evelyn Dillinger, of Jefferson City, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Odessa Mae Lindstrom; and a brother, George Dee Morgan.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Heckart Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday. Inurnment will be at a later date in Fisher Cemetery near Preston.

Condolences may be offered at Heckart Funeral Home. Arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Lawrence Edward Conger, 92, of Raleigh, N.C. died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, in Raleigh.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's St. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Sunday.

Born Aug. 23, 1908, in Tifton, [GA] Conger was a son of William A. Conger and Fannie Kendall Conger, both deceased.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mittie Griffin Conger, who died in 1997.

Conger was a retired barber and had resided in Raleigh for the past 25 years.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Diane Conger of Raliegh; four brothers, Hansel Conger, Thomas Conger, Jack Conger and L. "Bo" Conger all of Tifton; one sister, Mrs. Erby Tucker of Tifton; three grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

A wedding quiet, but impressive in its simplicity was solemnized Tuesday noon at the hotel parlor of the Squire's office where Miss Mary P. Piatt became the bride of Laurence E. Henthorn, Justice of the Peace W.A. Cronin officiating at the exchange of the marriage vows.

Mr. Henthorne (sic) is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Henthorne (sic) of New Matamoras R. 4, while Miss Piatt is the attractive young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Piatt of Graysville R. 1. Both are splendid young people, well and favorably known in their respective communities, where a wide circle of friends are offering congratulations and best wishes to the young couple who are starting married life with every prospect of a pleasant voyage.

Lawrence E. Henthorn, 81, of 840 Basswood Avenue, Canal Fulton, [OH], formerly of Noble County died Dec. 30, 1994 at his home. He was born Jan. 8, 1913, in Monroe County, a son of the late Robert J. Henthorn and Sarah Elizabeth Cline Henthorn.

He was a retired employee of B.F. Goodrich Rubber Co., Akron and was associated with the Nazarene Church, Canal Fulton.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Piatt Henthorn, Canal Fulton; one daughter, Mrs. Lemuel (Betty) Kindall, Canal Fulton; two sisters, Ava Travis, New Matamoras, Dorothy Pryor of Marietta; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna and Inez.

Friends were received Jan. 2 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield where services were held Jan. 3 with the Rev. Don Gainer, Jr. officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Graysville, [OH].

Henthorn Reunion Held at Wolf Run State Park

The annual reunion of the families of the late Henry and Eliza Henthorn was held at the Wolf Run State Park on Sunday, June 30th, [1974].

At noon a delicious dinner was enjoyed and the afternoon was spent visiting, taking pictures, and playing games.

Henthorn Reunion Held at Dillon Dam

The relatives of the late Henry and Eliza Henthorn held their tenth annual reunion Sunday, June 29, 1975 at the Dillion Dam Picnic grounds, [near Zanesville, OH].

All enjoyed a picnic lunch at noon after which a meeting was called to order by the president, Dorothy Henthorn, minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary.

Officers were elected for the next year: President, Ivan Harmon, Vice President, Dorothy Henthorn, Secretary and Treasurer, Pamela Stack.

The reunion will be held next year at Shoenbraun Park near New Philadelphia on Sunday, June 27.

The award for the oldest person present was given to Mamie Richards. The award for the youngest present was given to Eric Travis and the award for the ones driving the farthest to attend was given to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pierson. In the afternoon games were played, pictures were taken and all visited, having a good time.

John J. Richmond, 77, of 501 10th St Moundsville [WV], died Wednesday, March 13, [probably 1996, REH] in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glendale [WV]. He was born Oct 20, 1918 at Glen Easton. He was self-employed in the petroleum industry and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Moundsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Edna Miller Richmond.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn June Mills Richmond; a son, John Edward of Moundsville; two daughters, Mrs John (Verna) Mallicote of Tampa, FL, and Donna Ingram of Rogers, Ark; a brother, Bert of Moundsville; five sisters, Ruth Phillips, Maryetta Vucelick and Doris Richmond, all of Moundsville, Pearl Bierman of Centralis, IL, and Dorothy Yoder of Napa, CA, eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held at 10 am Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church, 1601 First St, Moundsville. Arrangements by Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes-Kirby-Vance Chapel, 110 Grant Ave, Moundsville.

OBITUARY: John M. Henthorn, born 26 May 1838 in Monroe Co., OH, died 16 Apr 1909, 79 years, 10 months, 20 days. He married Lidia A. Kent when 20 years old. They had 12 children, 4 sons and 3 daughters survive. Five children and his wife died previously. He spent all of his life in Monroe Co. except 1 year (11 years ?) in Tyler Co., WV. 2 brothers, and 7 children and 4 grandchildren. He was buried in West Union Cemetery. LAND: Was probably named in 11 Dec 1918 disposal of land of Francis Mozena and Hettie his wife, in Wood Co., WV, Deed Book, 171-432.

BIOGRAPHY: Synopsis
He was married by Rev. Lemon Dotson, Minister of the Gospel.

He worked as a telegraph operator for the B&O Railroad Co. He worked until 1935, 25 years. He was originally a brakeman. He fell under a train and lost his right leg. He used a wooden leg attached to the shoulder with a harness. It remained painful throughout his life.

He lived at Glovers Gap, near Mannington, WV. He lived at New Martinsville, WV from 1930 to 1934. He later lived at Jacksonbug. He liked to camp and frequently went to Canada to fish. He took his family to the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago. He like to tell stores to the kids. He purchased a new car each year.

He died of carcinoma of signoid (lower colon cancer).

DEATH: Ivin Floid Henthorn died on 17 Dec 1936 at the age of 48 years, 3 months, 12 days at Porters Falls, Wetzel Co., WV of carcinoma of Signoid. His parents were Richard L. Henthorn and Emma Mozena. His wife was Lillie Liston. Reported on page 76 of General Index and Register of Deaths - Wetzel County, WV.

OBITUARY:
Ivin Floid Henthorne, telegraph operator for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Company for 25 years died at his home in Porters Falls, [WV] at 11:40 p.m. last Thursday. He was 48 years old.

Funeral services were held from the Wharton Funeral Home at 2:30 o'clock last Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Mozena of Marietta officiating. Interment was made in the ...view cemetery, New Martinsville. Rev. Allen Fields of Pine Grove assisted with the funeral services.

A son of the late Richard and Emma Mozena Henthorne, he was born in Wood County, [WV], Sept. 5, 1888. He was a member of the Christian Church.

His widow, Lillie Liston Henthorne, survives, in addition to two sons, Raymon and Dale, two daughters, Helen and Betty, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Tice and Mrs. George Flynn, both of Parkersburg. One grandson also survives.

RECOLLECTIONS: At one time, 27 Nov 1970, Mr. A.E. Henthorn, grandson of Peter King Henthorn, lived at: Box 157, Sistersville, WV 26175, when he wrote a letter about family history to Catherine Foreaker Fedorchak, who wrote about family history in the Woodsfield, OH paper and in several books.

He stated that he was the grandson of Peter King Henthorn (1857-1937).

He said in the letter, "I am 61 years of age, born and raised in the foothills of the Applachians here in Tyler County, West Virginia, the second of five sons and one daughter born to George Bruce Henthorn and Mettie Ethel (Slider) Henthorn. My paternal grandparents were, Peter King Henthorn and Liva Belle (Buck) Henthorn."

OBITUARY: Arvil Elwood (Chip) Henthorn, 78, former resident of Paden City, [WV] and past president of First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Sistersville, [WV], died May 5, [1987] in Tucson, Arizona, [after] prolonged illness.

Henthorn was born on April 27, 1909, at Buck Run in Tyler County, [WV], a son of the late George Bruce and Mattie Slider Henthorn.

Henthorn began his association with First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Sistersville on June 12, 1933, when the institution was founded, and served as president of that institution for 13 years. Under Henthorn's management and guidance First Federal became one of the leading financial institutions of its type in West Virginia. Henthorn had remained on the Board of Directors prior to his death.

He was past member of the Elks and the Sistersville Country Club. An ardent sportsman, Henthorn also was a member of the Izaak Walton League and other conservation organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Ora Henthorn; two daughters, Donna Jean Spencer, of Lake Side, California, and Elizabeth Huerta of Tucson, Arizona; eight grandchildren and three grandsons; one brother, George Berl Henthorn of Paden City; one sister, Helen Virginia Bunney, Arlington, VA.

Private services were conducted in Tucson, AZ.

Yoho, Bernard L., Sr.

Yoho, Bernard L., Sr., 75 of Wileyville, W.Va., passed away at his residence as the result of a tractor accident on August 9, 2008.

He was born September 27, 1932, in Wheat, W.Va., a son of the late Jacob Henry and Nettie Cross Yoho.

He was a Protestant by faith. He was retired from Ormet Corp., after 31 years of service. He was an avid farmer and horseman. He was also in the United Steelworkers of America Local No. 5724 out of Clarington, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Lea Yoho; a brother, Harold Yoho; and sisters, Jessie Kirkpatrick and Mary Morris.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Evelyn "Heavy" Yoho; one son, Bernard Jr. "Bernie" Yoho; one grandson, Nathaniel Yoho; one great-grandson, Dillon Yoho; five sisters, Anna Goddard and Ora Greathouse of New Martinsville, W.Va., Pansy Price of Knob Fork, W.Va., Irene Morris of Dunlow, W.Va., and Pelma Swiger of Wileyville.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home, in Pine Grove, W.Va., where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Interment in the Yoho Cemetery on Hoyt Ridge.
