OBITUARY:
Elmond LeMoyne Coffield, M.D., 87, died on February 10, 2011, surrounded by his loving family and in the caring hands of the staff and professionals at Wetzel County Hospital, where he cared for his patients for 48 years.

Dr. Coffield was born on November 19, 1923, on Coffield Ridge in Wetzel County, West Virginia. He was the son of Susan Austie (Yoho) Coffield and Albert Lee Coffield, M.D. and the brother of Olan Terrell Coffield, M.D. He married Colleen Frost (Harris) Coffield of Bannock, Ohio on October 22, 1950.

Dr. Coffield graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from West Virginia University in 1943, a Bachelor of Science from West Virginia University Medical School in 1945, and a Medical Doctorate from the Medical College of Virginia in 1947. He did his medical and anesthesia residency at Ohio Valley General Hospital from 1947-1950.

Dr. Coffield joined his brother, Dr. Terrell Coffield, and began practicing family medicine in New Martinsville on July 1, 1950. Dr. Coffield, his brother, and their father Dr. Albert Lee Coffield provided health care to generations of Wetzel County families. It is estimated that Dr. Coffield and his brother delivered over 4,000 babies during the 30 years they offered obstetrical services as a part of their family practice. Dr. Coffield and his brother were health care innovators by adding a medical office pharmacy and the first drive through pharmacy service in conjunction with Harman’s Drug Store. He provided occupational medicine and served as the first plant physician at the New Martinsville Bayer facility (Mobay Chemical) from 1955-1998.

Dr. Coffield was inducted into the United States Army on December 18, 1943, and reported to duty at West Virginia University in the Army Specialized Training Program which trained physicians for military service. He was transferred to the Medical College of Virginia and was discharged on March 23, 1946. During the Korean War, Dr. Coffield served in the United States Army Medical Corp as a First Lieutenant and was stationed at Fort Bragg Army Hospital and Fort Knox Army Hospital from 1951-1953 where he served as an anesthesiologist.

Dr. Coffield is survived by his five children, Jennifer Coffield Tobin (Thomas J. Tobin), Rebecca Coffield Moore (Charles Thomas Moore, Jr.), Melinda Coffield Herrick, Colette Coffield Goddard (Aaron Goddard), and Robert LeMoyne Coffield (Susanne M. Coffield). He loved his twelve grandchildren: Chad Tobin, Dylan Tobin, Spencer Tobin, Thomas Moore, Evan Moore, Whitney Herrick Bacalman, Paul Herrick, Maggie Herrick, Taylor Goddard, Sean Goddard, Daniel Coffield, and Rachel Coffield. He also loved Goldie, his loyal yellow lab. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other Coffield and Harris relatives, neighbors, and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Colleen Frost (Harris) Coffield, who died on July 14, 1978.

Dr. Coffield was a member of the First Christian Church and one of the founding members of the Wetzel County Historical Society Museum. As a member of the Court Restaurant “lunch bunch,” Dr. Coffield was a wonderful storyteller and Wetzel County historian.

Visitation will be held at Grisell Funeral Home in New Martinsville on Saturday, February 12, 2011, from 6pm to 8pm and Sunday, February 13, 2011, from 12am to 3pm and 6pm to 9pm. His funeral service will be held Monday, February 14, 2011, at 11am at First Christian Church in New Martinsville, followed by internment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Leona Mae (Schafer) Harrison

RESEARCHER: Leona Mae (Schaffer) Harrison was, like her mother, interested in family history and genealogy. She shared her information with researcher Richard E. Henthorn. Richard and Melva enjoyed visiting with Leona during one of their visits to New Martinsville, WV.

OBITUARY: LEONA Mae (Schafer) HARRISON
Leona Mae Schafer Harrison, 87, of Ross Street, New Martinsville, W. Va., died Sept. 26, 2009 at Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield. She was born Jan. 16, 1922 in Warwood, W. Va., the daughter of the late Frank and Grace Suter Schafer. She was a retired federal employee for the VA Hospital in Butler, Pa., where she worked as a secretary in the dental clinic. She was a member of the D.A.R. the Monroe County Genealogy Society, United Methodist Women of Hannibal, and the Hannibal United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two brothers: Chester (Freda) Schafer, Powhatan Point; and Francis Schafer, South Carolina; also several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Clarence D. Harrison, a brother Franklin Schafer and an uncle Delbert Suter.

The family received friends on Sept. 29 at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, Clarington. Funeral services were held Sept. 30, 11 a.m., at Hannibal United Methodist Church, 52732 SR536, Hannibal, with Rev. Richard Wilson officiating. Interment in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Clarington.

Yoho, Michael “Goob” A, 52 of Silver Hill, [WV] died Monday, June 15, 2009 in Marshall County.

Michael was born March 22, 1957 in New Martinsville, WV the son of Keith Yoho and the late Dora Cecil Yoho.

He was a graduate of Magnolia High School Class of 1975, loved to ride his four-wheeler through the countryside of Silver Hill, a friend to all and he attended the Silver Hill Church of Christ.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, John and Doretta Cecil; paternal grandparents, Truman and Eathel Yoho.

Surviving are his father, Keith Yoho; four brothers, Kevin Yoho and his wife, Tina of Silver Hill, WV, Darren Yoho and his wife, Neta of Littleton, WV, Scott Yoho and his wife, Kris of Silver Hill, WV, Jay Yoho and his wife, Brandy of Cameron, WV; sister, Deborah Yoho of New Martinsville, WV; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Jarvis Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville, WV where services will be held 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2009.

Interment in Freedom Cemetery in Silver Hill, WV.

Yoho, Eathel F. (Miller)

YOHO, Eathel F. 98, of Moundsville, W.Va., formerly of Silver Hill, W.Va., died Sunday, February 1, 2009, at the New Martinsville Health Care Center.

Eathel was born March 26, 1910, in Silver Hill, daughter of the late Frenzy and Ida Baker Miller.

She was a homemaker and member of the Hillview Terrace Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Truman J. Yoho; two sons, Garth Yoho and Boyd Yoho; two brothers and five sisters.

Surviving are two sons, Sebert Yoho of Warren, Ohio, and Keith Yoho of Silver Hill; three daughters, Berneda Ward and her husband Glen, and Winifred Hinerman, both of Moundsville and Donna Yoho of Proctor, W.Va.; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Jarvis Funeral Home, 1224 S. Bridge Street, New Martinsville, where services will be held at 1 p.m. with Dan Kessinger officiating.

Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park, New Martinsville.

He was preceded in death by a son, Boyd; a daughter, Madelyn; his parents, C.L. and Lula Goddard Yoho; six brothers; a sister.
