Janice R. Conger, 63, of Sheboygan, [WI] died on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002 at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Janice was born in West Bend on Aug. 8, 1939, to Leoneze (Tesch) Rheingans and the late Chester Rheingans.
She attended Dodge County Teacher's College and received a BA degree in education from Lakeland college.
Janice was a teacher in the Sheboygan Area School District and taught in several schools in the city.
On June 16, 1962 she married Eugene J. Conger at Friedens United Church of Christ, Jackson.
Janice was a member of the First Congregational Church-United Church of Christ in Sheboygan where she sang in the choir.
She was also well known as a local musician and a fine singer. She was a charter member of the Lakeshore Chorale, sang with the John Michael Kohler Choruses and was a soloist for many of the churches in the area.
Janice enjoyed doing needlepoint and knitting, reading and gardening, "raising the most beautiful roses ever." She also enjoyed sailing with her husband, Gene.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Scott (Melissa) Conger of Wauwatosa and Gregory Conger of Oshkosh; a daughter, Cara-Lyn (Eric) Edson of Sheboygan; two granddaughters, Lauren and Emily; her mother, Leoneze Rheingans of West Bend; a brother, Dennis (and his special friend, Rozeann Campbell) Rheingans of Waukesha; a sister-in-law, Lesley (Wesley) Hatch of Wauwatosa; a niece; many cousins; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church-Church of Christ, with Rev. James H. Hollister, pastor, officiating.
A private family burial was held for Janice in Greenbush Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church, 310 Bluff Ave., on Saturday from noon until the time of services.
Due to construction, friends may travel on Geele Avenue to Fourth Street and going south on Fourth Street enter the church parking lot.
In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to the Janice R. Conger Memorial Music Scholarship Fund.
The staff of the Novak-Ramm-Ziegler Funeral Home, Sheboygan, is serving the family.
The family wishes to thank the many friends and church members who sent flowers, brought meals and extended kindness to them during Janice's illness. They also wish to thank Dr. Kevin Johnson and his staff and the staff at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.
