OBITUARY: Forrest Atkinson
Forrest "Frosty" Atkinson, 92, Barnesville Health Care Center, formerly of 51865 Headley Ridge Road, Beallsville, [OH] died Sunday, May 17, 1998 in Barnesville Hospital. He was born Aug. 27, 1905 near Barnesville, a son of the late John Atkinson and Maude Palmer Vaness.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Church of God, Beallsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three half brothers, Alton and Chalmer Atkin- son and Floyd Vaness; a half sister, Ella Vaness Jacobs.

Surviving are two sons, Floyd of Beallsville and Guy of Creston; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Vera) Atkinson Sutliff of Palm Bay, Fla; a half brother, Fred Vaness of Malaga; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harper Funeral Home, 52728 Ohio Ave., Beallsville, where services will be held Thurs- day at 1 p.m. with his son, the Rev. Floyd Atkinson officiating. Burial follows in East Sunsbury Cemetery, near Beallsville.

OBITUARY: ARLEN M. ATKINSON
Arlen M. Atkinson, 6l, Tiltonsville, [OH] died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling. He was born Sept. 22, 1936 at Clarington, a son of the late Alton A. and Sarah Henthorn Atkinson.

He was a retired employee of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. Yorkville plant and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy C. Wells Atkinson.

Surviving are a son, Arlen A. Atkinson of Tiltonsville; several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received today, 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 102 Main St., Tiltonsville, where services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with Floyd Atkinson officiating. Burial follows in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry. VFW Post 4811 will hold military graveside services on Friday in the funeral home.

OBITUARY:
David C. Atkins, a pioneer Milton [IA] man, died at his home in the central part of town last Thursday afternoon, after suffering a long illness. Mr. Atkins was 72 years of age, and had spent his entire lifetime in Milton or vicinity. He was the father of Postmaster M.E. Atkins and Marvin Atkins, and of Mrs. Beryl Gilchrist, all of Milton. These with his aged widow survive him.

Mr. Atkins was born on a farm south of Milton in 1859. For forty or forty-five years he was in the produce business, with headquarters in Milton. He drove over a wide area of this part of the state, as a huckster to promote his produce establishment. About three years ago, he retired, due to failing health. He had never been in good health at any time since his retirement. His surviving helpmate was Miss Lillian Henthorn, whom he married forty-seven years ago. This highly respected couple had a host of friends in this section, who knew them for the hospitable home which they maintained, and to which a wide circle of friends were always welcome.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church last Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H. F. Gilbert, of Cantril. Rev. Gilbert was a former pastor of Mr. Atkins' the latter having been a member of the Methodist church in Milton since the pastorate of Rev. J. Wesley Potter, many years ago. Pallbears were six business men of Milton; A.R. Norman, C.E. Epperly, Warren Sherwood, J.A. Luman, O.E. Rowland and Frank Hoskins. Interment was at the Milton Sunnyside cemetery, with Burnetts in charge. (1931)

Higginbotham, James Franklin

James Franklin Higginbotham

OBITUARY:
James Franklin Higginbotham, 75, died at his home in Paden City, [WV] Monday [17 Aug 1936] after a lingering illness of several months. Funeral services were held in the Paden City Church of Christ. Rev. A.E. Harper of Newport, Ohio and Rev. Cornelius Abbott of Middlebourne officiated. Burial was made in the Northview Cemetery at New Martinsville.

He was born in Wetzel County, Dec. 10, 1860, the son of George Sansom Higginbotham and Georgianna Earnshaw Higginbotham.

A son, Owen F. preceded him in death in 1892.

Surviving are: his widow, Mrs. Huldah Hendershot Higginbotham, two daughters, Mrs. Allen Brown of Sunbury, PA and Mrs. Edward Meeker of California; two sons, Cecil at home and James Arnold of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Garner of Hundred and Mrs. Mary Hunt of Power. Fifteen grandchildren also survive. (August 17, 1936)

U.S. Veteran S. [Shirley] Delbert Henthorn, 69 of Colliers, WV passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Acuity Specialty Hospital in Steubenville, OH.

He was born on April 18, 1940 in Wellsburg, WV a son of the late Ephraim Delbert and Rhea Margaret Grimm Henthorn.

Delbert was a 1959 Graduate of Wellsburg High School. He retired from US Can now known as Ball Corporation where he worked as a Coil Shear Operator. He was a navy veteran of Vietnam. He was also a member of the Weirton Moose Lodge #688 and Wellsburg Loyal Order of Moose #1564, a past Moose Legion President, a member of the American Legion Post 0045 in Weirton, WV and a family Support Board member.

Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Laura Tredway Henthorn whom he married on April 22, 1961. Three Children, Sara Parr of Colliers, WV; Margie Henthorn at home; and Marshall Henthorn and wife, Jennie of St. Albans, WV Three brothers, Bill Henthorn of Wellsburg, WV; Leroy Henthorn and wife, Janette of Wellsburg, WV; and Gary Henthorn and wife, Cheryl of Follansbee, WV Three Grandchildren, Christine and Seth Parr, and Andy Henthorn One Great Grandson, Talan Parr Several Nieces and Nephews

Friends will be received on Saturday, January 30, 2010 from 11:00 AM until time of Services at 2:00 PM at the Mullenbach Funeral Home 669 Main St. Follansbee, WV with Pastor Sam Williams officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens in Follansbee, WV. Loyal Order of Moose services will be held Saturday, January 30th at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Full military honors will be conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Brooke County Special Olympics at 1232 Charles St. Wellsburg, WV 26070. Henthorn, E. [Ephraim] Delbert, 84, of RD 2, Wellsburg, WV died Friday, October 4, 2002, at home. He was born October 1, 1918 in Wood County, WV. He was a retired employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in the plant protection department, a member of the Wellsburg Church of Christ and a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Stacey Henthorn; two brothers, Kenneth Henthorn and Rector Henthorn; four sisters, Virginia Waggel, Grace Eddy, Helen Britt and Jessie Eddy.

Surviving are his wife, Rhea Grimm Henthorn; four sons, Delbert Henthorn and his wife, Laura, of Colliers, William Henthorn of Wellsburg, Leroy Henthorn and his wife Jeanette, of Wellsburg, and Gary Henthorn of Follansbee; a sister, Margaret Westover of Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
